The History of Dublin
Situated on the banks of the Scioto, Dublin is one of central Ohio's oldest communities. In the early 1800s, John Sells and his family purchased 400 acres of land along the Scioto River. The land was surveyed into lots in 1818 and offered for sale. This is what is now known as Old Dublin. According to local legend, the Irish Surveyor, John Shields was asked to name the new town and supposedly said, "If I have the honor conferred upon me to name your village, with the brightness of the morn, and the beaming of the sun on the hills and dales surrounding this beautiful valley, it would give me great pleasure to name your new town after my birthplace, Dublin, Ireland." Dublin began to grow steadily, as well as its taverns, which it was well known for in the late 1800s, boasting 13 taverns.
Upon the completion of the outerbelt and development of the Muirfield Village Golf Club in the 1970s Dublin experienced an explosive growth period. Today, over 35,000 people call Dublin their home. Dublin attracts visitors from all over with its many festivals and events including the Dublin Irish Festival and the Memorial Golf Tournament.

Festivals & Events
The Dublin Irish Festival
Drawing in over 90,000 visitors every year, this festival has quickly become one of the nation's premiere Irish festivals. Events begin on Thursday with the traditional pub crawl in Historic Dublin.
The Memorial Tournament
This major PGA tour event features world renown golfers. The 2008 Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Muirfield Village Golf Club May 26- June 1.
Dublin Kiwanis Annual Frog Jump
More than 1,000 young "frog jockeys" participate in a variety of competitions. This array of amphibious athleticism takes place each June.
Arthritis Foundation Classic Auto Show
This two day event features over 1,500 classic cars. Friday's Cruise-In draws in participants from more than 20 states to compete for 125 six-foot tall trophies and many prestigious specialty awards.
